When you enter the back yard, you see a work of beauty from the lovely decorated patio with the beautiful hanging baskets to the magnificent flower beds.
The Cypress Area Garden Club presented the Beautification Award for Fall 2014 to Denise and Ken Wood. Their lovely home is in The Colony on Briers Lane. This is their ninth year in the home.
Denise and Ken are both retired educators. The have two sons who live in Haughton and both are in law enforcement. They also have two grandsons. When Denise retired 4 years ago from Airline High School, she had a bucket list. In the first two years after retirement, she received her Master Gardeners' certificate and became a licensed florist. Denise has been a member of Cypress Area Garden Club for two years. Denise enjoys sharing plants. Perennial are special to her home and yard.
When you drive into the driveway, you immediately see the lovely lemon, navel and blood orange trees in beautiful pots. Another focal is the beautifully decorated alcove located near the front door. Denise has decorated the alcove with a fountain, statues, ferns, begonias, mums and pumpkins for fall. The sitting area in the alcove is very inviting with colorful pillows.

Denise has twenty hibiscus plants located in the yard. The swimming pool is surrounded by beautiful plants and a winding walkway that leads to several sitting areas. Each sitting area is unique and inviting with the fountains, yard art and potted plants nearby. Along the back fence she has 12 large white crepe myrtles. Tucked away behind the garage is the green house.
Walking in Denise's garden you will find dahlias and daisy, clematis, Louisiana Iris, butterfly plants and a very unusual lion's paw plant.
