Stephen J. Lavery
Stephen J. Lavery was elevated from adjutant to commander of Shreveport’s Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion. He assumed the mantle of leadership after winning a special, mid-year election at the post’s general membership meeting in December.
Lavery succeeds Thomas R. Mills, who had been serving as commander on an interim basis since November. Mills will serve as first vice commander, an office he held previously.
Lavery, an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, is an active member of the American Legion. In addition to serving on the executive, house and grounds, bylaws and membership committees, he served previously as commander of Post 14 for the 2012-2013 year. Retired from KCS Railways after 37 years, Lavery, in addition to his duties at Post 14, is the 4th District Area “A” Commander of the American Legion. He is also a member of the Local 40 and eight and previously served as chaplain of the 4th District of the American Legion. He has also held leadership positions in both the Masonic Lodge and the Methodist Church.
