“There are a few pivotal moments in sport racing,” BPCC Chancellor Dr. James Henderson told a crowd of BPCC students, teachers, local political figures, racing teams and media this Tuesday, “One is this weekend in Talladega, the eliminator round in NASCAR. One is the end of the season in Homestead where they crown the NASCAR champion for the first time under the new Chase format… we’re at the pinnacle of racing, in my opinion, with the BPCC100. Bristol Night Race, no comparison. Daytona, forget it. Road races, forget it. The BPCC has been a great event for us.”
At the event, Dr. Henderson announced changes to the format, rules and date of the popular annual fundraising event – the 2015 race will be April 25 – and he announced the BPCC100 title sponsor for 2015, Capital One Bank.
Brad Daniel, Capital One’s Bossier and Rivers district manager, said of the company’s involvement, “This is our second year to be involved with it (the BPCC100)… it gives us the opportunity to partner with BPCC, and we’re glad to do so.”
The title sponsor announcement was attended by representatives of the college, local politicians and the sponsored race teams. In addition to the three-time defending champion SWEPCO “Rolling Blackout” team, teams in attendance included the BPCC Student Government, Northwest Louisiana Technical College, Simple Church, EXCO Resources, ANECA Federal Credit Union and the Bossier Parish Kids’ Patrol. Event representatives were quick to mention that there is plenty of time and room for additional sponsored teams to get in on the action and that entry information is available at the event’s website, bpcc100.org.
The BPCC100, which is heading into its fifth year, raises scholarship money for students who would otherwise not be able to attend college. To date, the event has raised more than $130,000 to help students stay in school and obtain their college diplomas.
