Go Red Committee
The organizing committee for the Go Red for Women Luncheon includes Lea Desmarteau, chair; Melissa Parkerson; Dianne Schick; Amy Stafford; Ellen Richardson; Vivian Andrews; Lisa Johnson; Laura Gooszen; Hedy Hebert; and Robin Williams.
The Northwest Louisiana American Heart Association hosts its annual Go Red for Women Luncheon at 10 a.m. Thursday at Harrah’s Horseshoe Casino.
Former “CBS This Morning” anchor Mark McEwan will speak at the luncheon. McEwan will share his story of survival, along with his candid memoir, Change in the Weather. He will also share insights into the warning signs of a stroke as well as prevention and treatment options.
“We’re raising awareness of a woman’s number one killer, heart disease,” Go Red for Women event chair Lea Desmarteau, said. “Many times women look after everyone else but themselves. We’re hoping that this event will educate women about the signs of heart disease and also show them what they can do to do prevent the disease from occurring in the first place.”
In addition to the heart healthy lunch, complimentary health screenings and two 30-minute educational seminars will be offered by local physicians Dr. Jonathan Davis and Dr. Irene Scaltsas. CHRISTUS Health Shreveport-Bossier will give free health screenings. Doctors will be on hand for private consultations about the screenings, which include blood pressure, BMI and cholesterol.
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in America today. Stroke is the fourth leading cause of death for females and the leading cause of serious, long-term disability. More than one in five females has some form of cardiovascular disease taking the lives of more than a half million women every year – more than the next FOUR causes of death combined, including cancer.
Individual tickets for the Northwest Louisiana Go Red For Women luncheon program are $150 and tables of eight are $1,500, payable in advance. To purchase tickets and for more information, please call the local AHA office at (318) 347-3122.
Go Red For Women is sponsored nationally by Macy’s and sponsored locally by CHRISTUS Health Shreveport-Bossier, Citizen’s National Bank and WellNecessities.
