Numana Inc. announced its plan to partner with more than 700 volunteers from three area churches to provide meals for thousands of hungry children in the developing world.
Volunteers from Trinity Heights Baptist Church, Brookwood Baptist Church and the Simple Church will team up with the Shreveport-based international hunger charity to package 320,000 life-sustaining meal packs.
The event calendar includes the following packaging events:
- Dec. 4, 6 p.m. – Trinity Heights Baptist Church
- Dec. 6, 9 a.m. – Brookwood Baptist Church
- Dec. 7, 3 p.m. – The Simple Church (Shreveport Convention Center)
At each packaging event, volunteers will serve at packing stations to assemble the meals into bags. The bags are then weighed, sealed, boxed and prepared for shipping. Africa New Life Ministries, in Rwanda, (www.africanewlife.org) will receive the majority of the meals, and a smaller portion of meals will go to Baptist Global Response (www.gobgr.org) for relief efforts in Sierra Leone, a nation in Africa hardest hit by Ebola.
Lindsay Brown represents Numana, Inc. in the Shreveport area. “It is incredible to see so many in our community come together to serve the hungry this holiday season. They aren’t just giving a few hours of their time to serve – most have sacrificed and given generously to raise money to provide the meals. In a season of ‘Black Friday’ and ‘Cyber Monday,’ it is beautiful to see people give so generously of their time and resources.”
