Feist-Weiller Cancer Center’s Partners in Wellness (PIW) program will be at Panera Bread on East 70th Street on Wednesday.
Feist-Weiller Cancer Center’s Partners in Wellness program will be at Panera Bread on East 70th Street on Wednesday to spread awareness about breast cancer screenings.
Jennifer Lance, PIW coordinator, says that the program takes away the usual barriers that keep women from getting screened.
“Our mammograms are free for the underinsured or uninsured,” Lance said. “The 3D machine aboard the van is also more comfortable, so fear of pain should not hold women back. The van also travels throughout north and central Louisiana to reach people who may lack transportation options.”
Panera Bread in Shreveport will be donating part of the proceeds from their pink ribbon bagel to PIW throughout the month of October but Wednesday, all proceeds from the cherry vanilla bagel will be donated.
The van will be parked at Panera from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for visitors to learn more and see the van for themselves; no screenings will take place.
“Mammograms save lives,” Lance said, noting that already this year, there have been six breast cancer diagnoses on a PIW van.
For the van’s remaining 2014 schedule, see the Partners in Wellness webpage. For questions, call 318.813.2225 or 1.800.582.4523.
