The Louisiana office of National Federation of Independent Business, the state's leading small-business association, has presented its coveted Guardian of Small Business Award to Sen. Barrow Peacock.
The Guardian of Small Business award is the most prestigious honor that NFIB bestows on legislators in recognition of their efforts to support small business issues. The NFIB/Louisiana Leadership Council, an advisory board comprised of NFIB members, voted to present the award to Peacock for supporting small-business issues in the Legislature.
Peacock has been a reliable ally of small business since joining the Senate two years ago, said Dawn Starns, state director of NFIB/Louisiana.
"During this year's legislative session, Senator Peacock led efforts in committee to stop measures like the proposed state minimum-wage increase and a potentially costly and completely unnecessary state-run retirement plan for private business," Starns said. "On the floor, he led efforts to stop lawsuit abuse and restrict government involvement in private business practices.
"He has a 100 percent NFIB/Louisiana voting record for 2012-2013 as well as the 2014 sessions," she said. "Senator Peacock understands the needs of local business and the necessity of reducing the government's role in their lives and the importance business plays in creating jobs.
"On behalf of all small businesses in Louisiana, NFIB would like to thank Senator Peacock for his hard work and dedication to our state's entrepreneurs," Starns said.
NFIB has over 4,000 dues-paying members in Louisiana , representing a cross section of the state's economy.
