Participants in last year's Autism Walk.
April is Autism Awareness month and the Northwest Louisiana Autism Chapter is holding the 5th annual Walk for Autism on Saturday, April 26, at 9 a.m. The walk will be held at A.C. Steere park, 4009 Youree Dr. in Shreveport. For anyone who has pre-registered, pick-up of your packet and T-shirt begins at 8 am. The Northwest Louisiana Autism Chapter is a non-profit organization that operates as a regional chapter of the Autism Society of America, providing support and information to families affected by autism who live in the northwest parishes of Louisiana. Among the services provided are recreational opportunities and resources to families. One of the biggest initiatives of the chapter is Camp Rainman, a summer camp for persons on the autism spectrum.
The local Autism Chapter is an all-volunteer group of parents and caregivers of people with autism. This annual walk helps to raise funds for the camp so that every person has the opportunity to attend.
All monies donated to the local chapter stays local; it goes directly to families and persons in this area and is not handed over to any other organization. The 5th Annual Walk for Autism fundraising proceeds will benefit efforts to continue to provide monthly social activities for members and Camp Rainman. Register to walk or donate at www.firstgiving.com/NWLAAutismChapter/2014-walk-for-autism and help raise autism awareness by promoting acceptance and inclusion of persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder into our community.
