A recent letter to The Times by the Rev. Artis Cash chastising the “obstructionist” (read Republicans) as the major factor for Obama’s failing health care program would be laughable were it not written by a person charged with knowing and delivering some modicum of truth to his flock. His ludicrous statement “the obstructionist have sworn by oath to deny affordable health care to the needy” is not only cruel but untrue. I find it difficult to believe a minster would actually say that.
I know of no person or group who wishes to deny any sick person medical care regardless of race, religion, gender, social status or income.
Our emergency wards remain open to all and though not cost effective for routine sick call they remain open. Knowing a visit to an emergency ward is expensive, I propose we invest in small medical clinics throughout the land. Designed to cover the most basic medical services, these could be overseen by a physician and staffed by PAs, RNs and trained medics like those in the military. There are vacant facilities in every metro area that could be converted economically to serve our poor. Many such facilities could already be up and running had the president not squandered so much treasury on his ill-fated program.
Mr. Obama continues to state he is trying to help the 50 million or so who are now without insurance. Low-cost sick call facilities are the answer. His proposal to sack what most of us find acceptable health care is just another case of poor judgment.
